Schools May Be Axed Health Food

Most trans fats are industrially created and increase the shelf life of processed Health Food. However, they are regarded to contain no Health Food benefits and increase the risk of heart disease.

Ontario's Healthy Food for Healthy Schools Act would require an end to selling food with trans fat in school cafeterias.We certainly would support healthy food choices in our schools for students and staff.

Contracted food service providers in Peel board high school cafeterias are already required to provide one healthy food choice for students, McDougald noted.Health Food A legislative ban alone is not going to force students to adopt or make healthy food choices, she suggested.

The province and school boards must also concentrate on teaching students the importance of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Banning all Health Food considered unhealthy from schools would just force high school students to leave school grounds and purchase junk food from fast Health Food outlets.
